Land Remediation Relief

Land Remediation Relief

You may have never heard of Land Remediation Relief, but it has been around for nearly 20 years and provides tax relief for expenditure incurred on cleaning up contaminated land left behind by the previous owners. For the relief to be available there must be a possibility of serious harm to persons or the environment, damage to buildings, or pollution to water courses.

Common examples include:

  • Japanese Knotweed
  • Asbestos
  • Radon protection measures
  • Arsenic
  • Ground/landfill gases
  • Sulphate contamination in soil and concrete
  • Hydrocarbon contamination e.g. fuels, oils or dealing with disused tanks
  • Pollution from previous industrial activity such as; heavy metal contaminants from industrial processes
  • Removal of redundant utility services and concrete foundations on sites or part of sites derelict since April 1998
