" This has been an extremely positive change enabling us to appraise the organisation as a whole in terms of the seasonal nature of what we do"
Fiona Smith, Farm Manager
Acorn Farm appointed Jackson Stephen as our accountants nearly 12 months ago. The accountant who had done the organisation’s accounts for over 20 years was retiring so we were looking for a new firm to take over. We invited 3 accountancy firms to come and meet us and explain the services which they could provide. We found Peter Atkinson and Fiona Barrett from Jackson Stephen to be the firm we would most like to work with. Not only were their prices competitive but their approach was very refreshing. They were both extremely pleasant and able to simplify the explanation of our accounts down to a level which staff and trustees were able to understand. They also identified that for our organisation it may be better to change the year end from March to December. This has been an extremely positive change enabling us to appraise the organisation as a whole in terms of the seasonal nature of what we do.
Initially we were on a tight time scale to receive the audited accounts for the year end 2012, as we wished to submit a large funding application. However Fiona and her team pulled out all the stops and completed the work well within the timescale.
Both Peter and Fiona attended our AGM to present the accounts to the trustees which they did at a level which was both appropriate and interesting.
I have on several occasions contacted Fiona for clarification on accounts information needed for grant applications. She has always responded immediately and been willing to explain the detail in some depth if required. She has also provided us with information on Gift Aid.
I would highly recommend Jackson Stephen as a firm; they are very professional yet friendly and approachable.
